What’s next for Bangladesh?
Bangladesh is now set to leave the list of LDCs on 24 November 2026 after enjoying a preparatory period of five years. It is recommended by the United Nations that a graduating LDC should prepare a national Smooth Transition Strategy (STS) during the preparatory period in cooperation with its development and trading partners and with targeted assistance from the UN system.
In case of Bangladesh, a 9-member Subcommittee on STS led by the Secretary of ERD is responsible for steering the formulation of the STS. Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP) of ERD is providing technical support and coordinating the overall process of STS preparation. SSGP is carrying out in-depth sectoral studies and organizing regular workshops, seminars and stakeholder consultations on LDC graduation related issues. Feedback and recommendations coming from them is providing valuable inputs into STS.
